Guild Wars 2: The 7 Best Ways To Farm Experience (2024)

The player level cap in Guild Wars 2 is 80. While venturing around Tyria and completing the story, you will eventually become level 80; after this, you will still be able to gain experience, which is converted into Mastery. This experience is used with Mastery points to upgrade and unlock new skills, such as gliding and fishing.

Gaining experience can be difficult at times, especially if you are working on a higher-level mastery. Fortunately, we have the best methods for farming experience. Here, we will go over how to farm experience in general, as well as how to farm experience within specific maps.

7 The Silverwastes

The Silverwastes is an area located to the east of Brisban Wildlands. This sandy area is a popular spot for farming experience while completing events. While here, you will often see a squad of other players running around, flagging any events that they encounter.

To efficiently farm experience here, you can run through the different camps and participate in events that appear. You do not have to follow the event to the end to get experience for participating. The best way to do this is by joining a group in the group finder; here, you will see Silverwastes groups advertised as ‘RIBA’.

6 Experience Boosters

There are several different types of experience boosters, ranging from unique items to platters of food. For example, the Feast of Delectable Birthday Cake is a food item that boosts stats, karma, magic find, and experience from kills. To get this item, you will need to have the ‘Birthday – Year 9’.

This isn’t very helpful if you are new to the game, but prior to group events, there is usually a player who will place one down, allowing you to have a bite. Additionally, you can also use the Heroic Booster, pictured in the image above. Overall, experience boosting items will provide an extra bit of experience which will begin to add up, especially if you are participating in a meta or chain of events.

5 World Bosses

As their name suggests, world bosses are bosses that appear in the world and must be defeated by a group of players. These bosses give a variety of loot, as well a hefty chunk of experience. Participating in world boss events is a great way to gain experience, achievement points, and loot all at the same time.

World bosses will appear on a set schedule.

Meta events are a type of event that essentially tell the story of a map. Meta events usually involve a chain of smaller events, leading up to a grand finale. These meta events give a lot of experience, and may even give additional experience based on your level of contribution.

For example, the Battle in Tarir is the meta event for Auric Basin. In this event, you will need to battle and defeat the Octovine, which blocks the four entrances leading into Tarir. Upon completion of this event, you will gain a huge amount of experience, as well as a bonus based on how much you contributed.

3 Adventures

Adventures are small challenges offered throughout the world. While participating in an adventure, you will earn a score that will earn you a bronze, silver, or gold reward. Each of these tiers will give rewards, as well as experience.

To farm experience with adventures, all you need to do is repeat the adventure a few times. In order to find adventures on the map, look for an icon of a person with a cape holding a staff. These markers signify that there is an event here.

2 Tomes Of Knowledge

Tomes of Knowledge are consumable items that will grant players under 80 one level of experience. If you are already level 80, you will instead get one spirit shard. This item is great if you are looking to farm experience in order to get to level 80.

Similar to the Tome of Knowledge, you can also obtain the Writ of Experience. This item will provide five percent of the experience that you need to reach the next level, but you can trade 20 for one Tome of Knowledge from Miyani, who stands next to the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch.

1 Playing The Story

Lastly, you can earn experience by playing through the story. If you have not yet completed any expansion or living world season, you will be able to earn rewards at the end of every section, including unique items that are immediately converted into a large amount of experience.

For example, after completing several instances in End of Dragons, you will receive the Stash of Crimson Skull Coins. This item does not get added to your inventory; instead, it will turn into a large amount of mastery experience, filling up a large chunk of your experience bar.
