According to the Hit Man star, a friend of his younger sister was on a first date when the man she met invited her back to his place and proceeded to give her a massage, which eventually led to the terrifying discovery that he was allegedly a serial murderer and cannibal.
But even though many of Powell's fans reacted in shock at hearing the story, others wondered if it was just a tall tale, or if Powell might have fallen victim to a game of telephone.
'You want to hear a crazy story? My little sister was friends with a girl who went on a date with a guy. They're hanging out. He's super charming,' Powell began, pausing so that he could 'fact check' the story with his sister.
'They have a great night, and she goes back to his apartment that night and he's like, "Hey, can I give you a massage?"' The Top Gun: Maverick star — whose parents trolled him on the Hit Man red carpet — continued.

As she got back to his apartment, she started getting weird vibes. She's like, "Something feels off.''
Nevertheless, she agreed to the massage but kept getting weird vibes.
'So, he starts massaging her shoulders,' he claimed. 'Everything just feelin' odd. She's like, "I gotta get out of here." It's a little weird, he's like, "No, no. Please don't leave. I'm sorry." She leaves.'
The Hit Man star went on to explain that the next day his sister's friend's skin started 'itching like crazy' so she went to the doctor.
The doctor did a test and discovered the lotion her date had used on her was from the black market.
'He does a test on her skin,' Powell said. 'It turns out it's a black market lotion that breaks down skin for human consumption.'
Shane gasped in genuine shock as Powell continued: 'This man was rubbing lotion on her body to eat her.'
But that wasn't all. The doctor allegedly urged the women to share the man's identity and location.
'The doctor is like, "You have to give me this person's address and you should call the police,"' Powell claimed. 'They go to this guy's house, and he had several girls' bodies in the house.'
Fans went wild after a clip of the interview was shared on X, formerly Twitter.

The Top Gun: Maverick star said the woman went back to the man's home and accepted his offer of a massage, but she left in a hurry after he started because 'something [felt] off'
The next day, her skin allegedly was 'itching like crazy,' so she saw a doctor, who told her the lotion used for the massage was a black-market substance to break down 'down skin for human consumption'
'This man was rubbing lotion on her body to eat her,' Powell claimed, before saying the doctor got the woman to give up the man's location
Powell claimed police found 'several girls' bodies in the house.' But some skeptical fans wondered if the actor was fibbing, or if he may have been taken in by an urban legend or mixed the story up with the plot of the 2022 horror–comedy Fresh
'my god i could not have expected the way that story ended like what do you mean there's a lotion that breaks down bodies for human consumption,' one person wrote.
Still others were skeptical, bringing up an old Snopes story and the 2022 movie Fresh starring Powell's Twister costar Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Fresh follows a woman who goes on a weekend getaway with man, whom she later discovers is a cannibal.
'Now why this story reminds me of this movie....,' a fan wrote, sharing a photo of the Fresh movie poster.
