BODENHAMER WINSTON-SALEM Dale Eugene Bodenhamer February 23, 2014 Dale Eugene Bodenhamer passed away peacefully at Brighton Gardens on February 23, 2014.

He was born to the late Worth and Ruth Bodenhamer in Forsyth County, where he lived his entire life. A graduate of Clemmons High School, he was employed by P.H. Hanes Knitting Company for 39 years. His wife of 64 years, Joan Masten Berrier, survives. Also surviving are a daughter and her husband, Jan and Charles Whittingham and their daughter, Kate, all of Tiburon, California and their son, Chase, of Hartford, Connecticut.

Dale's beloved son, Dale Masten (Dee) died in' 2007. Also surviving are two brothers, and their wives, Harold and I Barbara, Dewey and Pat; as well as a sister-in-law, Patricia Berrier Jones and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Dale was a long-time member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, where he served as both Elder and Trustee and participated in many other activities. He was a dedicated blood donor. Dale and Joan loved traveling and took their children and grandchildren on many exciting trips.

A lover of all sports, Dale was especially happy when at the family beach cottage fishing with his buddies, swimming with his grandchildren, and watching the Atlanta Braves play. He also had a real passion for Duke basketball. Dale touched everyone he met with his warmth and kindness. His friendliness with young and old endeared him to a wide circle of friends. Even in his last years, while afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, he maintained these lov- WINSTON-SALEM JOURNAL ing qualities.

Deep gratitude is expressed to the staff at Brighton Gardens and the Hospice nurses who cared for him. A family service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Columbarium in God's Acre at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Memorial Service in the Church Sanctuary. Reverend Dr.

Worth Green and Rev. John Rights will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. 8, 1925 Feb. 23, 2014 Mr. George Billy Walters, age 88, passed away Sunday February 23, 2014. Mr. Walters was born November 8, 1925 in Surry County to George and Nettie Renegar Walters.

Mr. Walters retired from Wholesale and was a faithful and long-time member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the choir for 60 years. Mr. Walters was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. He fought in the battle of the Rhine, the battle of the Ardennes forest, and the battle Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart and two bronze.

21, 2014 Barbara Anderson Lane departed this life on February 21, 2014 at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. The oldest child of the late Clarence and Viola Mackey Anderson, she was born on July 22, 1936 in Winston- NC and spent of her life in the city. She graduated from Carver High School and later earned a degree in Nursing from North Carolina University. Barbara practiced her profession for more than 30 years in the states of North Carolina and Maryland. She retired in the mid-90's due to health issues but remained a nurse-atheart until her passing.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a son, Rodney Young in October 2007; daughter, Robin Young Ashford in October 2011; and brothers, Calvin and Robert Anderson. She is survived by her DEVOTing. ED son, Rencel Jones of Charlotte, NC; sister, Betty Anderson Dent of Piscataway, NJ; brother, Jerry Anderson and sister-in-law, Paula McCoy Anderson of the city; aunt, Bernice Brown of the city; daughter-in-law, Joan Carter Young of the city; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends. Barbara was an avid collector of angel figurines and held a firm belief that angels surrounded her. Her belief was demonstrated by the extraordinary love and support extended to her by an "army" of friends who visited her frequently throughout her stay in extended care facilities over the past few years.

Our family is eternally grateful to ALL of her angels for the love and many kind expressions extended to her during this time! "Barb" will forever remain in our hearts as a devoted mother, sister, daughter and friend --as the Creator grants her eternal rest. 21, 2014 Sylvia Staley Paschal, 79, of Clemmons passed away February 21, 2014. She was born February 2, 1935 in Troy, NC, to the late Jake Staley and Rona Saunders Staley. From age two through her high school years, Sylvia was raised at the Children's Home of North Carolina in Winston-Salem. She developed close, lifelong friendships with many of the other female residents. Sylvia retired from Forsyth Radiological Associates in 1989 with 13 years of service as a physician's secretary and records clerk.

She was a loving wife and mother, who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, crochet and making decoupage crafts. Sylvia is preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Paschal, and several siblings. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lawrence William Paschal, son Gregory Paschal and wife Melissa; grandson Alex; brother Roy Staley. 21, 2014 The Reverend Catherine Jane Reed passed away February 21, 2014 at Regency Nursing Center. She was born July 16, 1923 in Erie, PA. At an early age, she moved with her parents, Daniel and Virgie Reed, to Drift, KY. She completed her early education and high school there. She received a B.A.

from McCormick Seminary and a B.A. in Divinity from Yale Divinity School. In the mid-1960's she moved to North Carolina where she earned a Master's Degree in social work from UNC-Chapel Hill. She served many local churches associated with the Yadkin Presbytery including Lloyd Presbyterian Church. The last years of her ministry were with the Salem Presbytery where she served in many different capacities.

21, 2014 Shirley Dona Schaefer died peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, February 21, 2014 at Brookridge Retirement Community in WinstonSalem, NC. She was the daughter of Leslie Lester Beyer and Helen Anderson Beyer, born February 2, 1935, in Wenachee, Washington. Shirley was married to Henry "Bud" Schaefer (1930-2004) in February of 1955 while he was serving in the United States Air Force. She is survived by her three sons Jeffrey Lee Schaefer, Randall Alan Schaefer (wife Teresa), and MSGT Retired Bradley Scott Schaefer (wife Amy grandchildren; Stacy, Leslie, Jaymi, Traci, Hannah and Sarah-and four great -grandchildren; Hailey, Keith, Sydney, and Michael. Although Shirley loved her birth state of Washington, she was charmed by North Carolina and thought of it as her home.

She was an intelligent and business savvy woman, devoting her expertise to the H.L. Yoh Company from 1972 to 1993. She had a loving and vivacious spirit and touched many lives throughout the course of her own life. She loved traveling, cruising, camping, Bridge, reading and doting on her grand and great grandchildren missed and by she all who knew and loved her. Her legacy will live on via all who were touched by her light.

A private funeral services will be held on Saturday March 8, at 3:00 p.m. in Brookridge Retirement Community Chapel for immediate family and Brookridge residents, only. 1, 1934 Feb. 21, 2014 William Curtiss Scott, 79, of Winston-Salem passed away February 21, 2014 at home with his family. He was born on November 1, 1934 to William C. Scott, Sr. and Cora Luella Scott in Valle Summit, MD.

He was a graduate of Beall High School and Frostburg State College (1956). He did graduate work at the University of Maryland at College Park and the University of Virginia. He also earned a General Diploma from the Insurance Institute of America and was a member of the Society of CPCU's. Bill was a teacher before becoming an insurance underwriter, manager and executive. He worked for Nationwide Insurance for 17 years, Commercial Union, First of Georgia and retired from Universal Insurance Co.

Thomas Edward Tuggle April 17, 1926 Feb. 23, 2014 Rev. Thomas Edward Tuggle, of NC Hwy 801 South, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 23, 2014, while standing in the pulpit that he had faithfully served for over 51 years. He was 87. Preacher Tuggle was born April 17, 1926, in Rockingham County, to the late George Earl and Nina Sue Bullins Tuggle and was raised in Stoneville.

He was saved in Clearview Baptist Church in Mayodan on March 26, 1950. His testimony was made famous of his girlfriend, Mrs. Ruby, telling him she had been saved and if he couldn't go to church with her, he couldn't go anywhere else with her. He attended the next service and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Preacher Tuggle was called to preach and preached his first message on the street on October 6, 1951.

He organized Level Cross Baptist Church in Level Cross in 1955, and also pastored Lakeview Baptist Church in Davidson County before being called to Dutchman Creek Baptist Church. Preacher Tuggle and Mrs. Ruby were 36 and 32 years old when they came to Dutchman Creek in September of 1962. He faithfully served the Lord as pastor there literally up until the last second of his life here. The church recently celebrated his 51st anniversary.
