The life and times of Grammy Award-winning singer, Amy Winehouse, who died at the age of 27, will be turned into an eight-part series. The drama project is based on the bestselling book, Saving Amy, by author and journalist, Daphne Barak.
Halcyon Studios has the rights to turn the book into a script series, and none other than the former Y&R executive producer and head writer, Mal Young, will adapt the book to series as its writer, and be the project’s executive producer as well.
David Ellender, Halcyon Studio chief executive, said that the production team assembled is ‘honored’ to be working on the project. He added, “Although her career was cut far too short, Amy was the voice of a generation and we look forward to telling her story in the most poignant way possible.’
The ‘Amy Winehouse project’ will shed light on her troubled relationships including with her father, her battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and her iconic voice and songwriting genius which led to her phenomenal success at such a young age. Winehouse died from a drug and drinking overdose.
The book Saving Amy was taken from 40 hours of footage, photographs and interviews which revealed Winehouse’s inner-struggles while having enormous success with her second album, Back to Black, which became critically-acclaimed and a massive commercial success.
So, intrigued to see the Amy Winehouse series when it’s completed and released? What do you think of Mal Young serving as the writer/executive producer of the project based on Amy’s turbulent life? Comment below.

I’d take him back on Y n R anyway over Griffiths it took 3 years to finally gain momentum writing
Mal Young only had one year which was unfair. He had great things brewing before he got canned. The Rosales and Mia’s pregnancy and the Lola/ Kyle/ Summer triangle was at its peak too.

Three weeks ago, Days of our Lives announced a slew of returns that will be seen starting next June on the Peacock streaming soap opera.
The names included longtime fan favorites: Thaao Penghlis (Tony DiMera) along with LeAnn Hunley (Anna DiMera), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton), Victoria Konefal (Ciara), Charles Shaughnessy (Shane), Matt Ashford (Jack) and Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), among others.
Now, Thaao Penghlis took a moment to post a photo of himself on X alongside his TV brother, Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera) from inside the Days of our Lives make-up room. Not only did Penghlis give high praise to Flynn, but for the new co-head writers of the soap opera, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford, who replaced former head writer, Ron Carlivati back in June of this year.

Episodes under Carlivati’s tenure will stream through April of 2025, before new material, scripts and storylines from Cwikly and Ford kick-in for viewers; due to the length of time between the soap taping new episodes and when they finally are made available for fans on Peacock.

On his latest Salem return, Penghlis shared, “So good to be back at Days working with one of my faves. Billy is so special to work with. Since he’s had his two boys his heart has become more open. Thank u my friend for ur warm embrace. The new writers are making a difference. DiMera is back.”
Back in May of this year when Thaao spoke to Soap Opera News, he had decided that he was done with soap operas and and that it was time to move on, citing, “Things are changing with new characters and budget constraints. Some characters are not there any more. It’s time to move on and appreciate the time that’s been spent.”
However, with a new outlook and new writers in place, it looks like Thaao seems to be enjoying being back with the cast, and being part of the DiMera clan as viewers will see come the summer of 2025.
So, are you looking forward to seeing how the new writers change the shape or direction of Days of our Lives? Do you think they will make significant changes, or small incremental ones? Are you glad Thaao is back on DAYS? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

While the writing has been on the wall for the last few years, it now seems inevitable that General Hospital fans will no longer see Leslie Charleson on-screen and in Port Charles in her signature soap role as Monica Quartermaine.
This week, in a story in Closer, a source told the outlet about the status of Leslie’s health and why she would be unable to return to taping episodes, at this point in her career and life.
The source indicated that due to falls she has suffered in a recent years it has made difficult for her to walk. However, the report shared that Leslie is “doing OK under the circumstances and in no rush to push herself.” They noted that while she hasn’t appeared on General Hospital in several months, she was spotted out to lunch in Los Angeles this month and she was using a walker and had a caregiver assisting her. However, they also were quick to point out that Leslie is indeed socializing and seeing her friends.

Charleson joined GH back in 1977 replacing Patsy Rahn in the role of Monica Quartermaine. She told Soap Opera Digest about her rocky start at Monica sharing, “It was a pretty miserable beginning for me as Monica. Nobody really liked me because I guess they had let Patsy Rahn go rather unceremoniously.”Eventually, things turned around big time, and along the way Charleson has earned four Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1995.
As GH fans know back in 2018, Charleson suffered a fall and was temporarily recast with Patty McCormck. Later, Holly Kaplan subbed Kaplan for Leslie for one day as Monica in 2022.

Over the last few years, whether it be via a phone call, or referring to Monica’s absence in scenes for various reasons, the show has kept the character of Monica alive, and from reports, they are keeping the role open for Charleson should she feel up to returning at any point in the future. Closer reported that, “Although she’d (Charleson) be welcome back to the show with open arms, it’s unlikely she’ll ever return.”
So, are you sad to hear that we may never see Leslie Charleson back on-screen as Monica, but glad to hear that GH will hold the role open for her should she decide to return? Share your thoughts via the comment section.

The arrival of Days of our Lives newest character is about to show up at Gabi’s (Cherie Jimenez) front door when on the Monday October 28th viewers will get their first glimpses of Al Calderon in the role of Javi Hernandez.
In story, Javi is the cousin of Gabi and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering). As we have previously reported when Calderon was cast in the role over nine months ago, he has quite the voice in fact he appeared in the reality-singing competition the X Factor and recently appeared in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie on FX.
Javi comes to Salem mourning the death of his mother, and views Gabi is like his big sister. Speaking with TV Insider on his arrival Calderon expressed, “He’s ready to start over. I connected to that, too. My mom passed away in 2020 and she was my best friend in the world. Living in L.A. really helped my healing journey. It’s not necessarily running away from your trauma, it’s just a change of scenery that helps you push through that grief, and for Javi, what better way to do it with someone that’s like your big sister.”

However, someone is Salem is about to get a new boyfriend. Calderon teases a major love story is on the way for Javi’s future. Is Javi the new man for Leo (Greg Rikaart), or someone else?
Al shared, “The crux and core of any relationship, straight, gay, anything in between, is love and respect and care and kindness. And I think the writers did a really great job of creating a genuine love story that isn’t pander-y, but two people living their lives authentically and unapologetically.”
Taking on a gay character on the soaps and its representation, is not lost on Calderon, “It’s a big responsibility but I feel honored to be able to be a part of something that might change someone’s perspective.”
Are you excited to see Javi arrive on the Salem scene? Happy to hear there is more LGBTQ+ representation on the soaps with the arrival of the character? Share your thoughts via the comment section below,
